Millar Instruments manufactures a complete line of solid-state pressure transducer catheters for use in urodynamic testing procedures. Millar catheters are used in a variety of studies such as cystometry (CMG), urethral/bladder pressure measurements, urethral pressure profiles (UPP), pressure/uroflowmetry and gynecological urodynamics. Millar Mikro-Tip®catheters are compatible with virtually all urodynamic systems on the
market today.
Millar urodynamic catheters are now exclusively distributed domestically through Life-Tech, Inc. Please click on the Life-Tech logo or call Life-Tech Customer service at 281.491.6600 ext 216.
Millar Instruments will handle all warranty and service items on urology catheters. Please contact Millar's Repair and Evaluation department at 832.667.7148.
Advantages of Mikro-Tip urodynamic catheters Millar Mikro-Tip solid-state catheters offer many
advantages
over traditional fluid-filled catheters. These advantages are
listed in the table below.
Mikro-Tip catheter
Fluid-filled catheter
Mikro-Tip advantage
Flushing
Not required.
Flushing to remove air bubbles is required
and is time consuming.
Saves time and money.
Zeroing and Calibration
At any level prior to study.
Requires precise positioning.
Saves time and money.
Catheter Whip and Impact Artifacts
Produces minimum artifact due to movement.
Inclined to catheter whip and
impact artifacts.
Precise and accurate readings.
Frequency Response
Solid-state; no air bubbles to impact readings.
Frequency may deteriorate due to the introduction
of air bubbles into the catheter, stopcocks, or tubing during catheterization.
Superior linearity,stability, and frequency
response mean accurate measurement with fast pressure variations.
Patient Movement
Does not affect readings.
Must be minimized.
Enhanced patient comfort.
Design
One piece.
Multiple pieces.
Saves set-up time.
Ambulatory urodynamics
Traditionally, most cystometric and related urodynamic studies were conducted
in the laboratory for short periods of time and under non-physiologic
environments. Today, urodynamic system manufacturers offer ambulatory
monitoring systems to monitor the patient in different positions (supine,
sitting, and walking), during sleep, and while voiding. Millar Mikro-Tip
pressure catheters are ideally suited to ambulatory urodynamic studies.
Millar offers several models of catheters for urodynamic
studies. Models with filling lumens may be used for slow, medium, or fast
filling as defined by the International Continence Society. The SUPC-760S and
SUPC-780S have a filling lumen and two pressure sensors, one for the bladder
(intravesical) and the other for reading urethral (intraurethral) pressures.
The SUPC-380S is used for abdominal pressure (intrarectal/intravaginal).
All Millar urodynamic Mikro-Tip catheters are latex
free.
