Performs functions to design and develop new company products. Creates requirements specifications to design and develop new or redesign of existing products to improve company business.
Applies the practical application of the principles of engineering for the development and utilization of products, instrumentation, processes, and services. Considerable attention is given to research, design, manufacturing, testing, calibration, procurement, and operations.
Function as a working manager of the Product Development group and reports status of existing projects to the VP of Engineering.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Applies novel ideas, engineering concepts, to develop new products using existing and new technology(s) as well as to improve existing products
Identifies product improvements
Determines and establishes project requirements, specifications, and guidelines through engineering calculations and layouts
Responsible for management of all product development projects and duties
Participates in and/or hosts design reviews using design control as well as verification and validation efforts
Creates design drawings, schematics and block diagrams
Composes test protocols, memos, reports, technical procedure manuals, and general correspondence
Prepares product specifications, cost estimates, reports, proposals, and presentations
Communicates with vendors to obtain information and assistance
Maintains a laboratory notebook
Oversees building of prototype/model products
Supports other groups within the company
Investigates product related manufacturing issues where applicable
Works within engineering design control system
Works with Quality and Regulatory to ensure compliance during product design
Will give direction and motivate engineering professionals and other employee associates in subordinate positions
Will issue engineering change notice (ECN) for documentation introduction or change requirements
May participate in Corrective action Requests (CAR) and/or product Defect Reports (DR) resolution
May occasionally converse with doctors and/or customers pertaining to product issues or questions
Other duties as assigned by VP/CTO
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE
Bachelor’s Degree (BS in electrical ,mechanical or biomedical engineering) from four-year college or university
Five to seven years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience working in a medical device regulated environment preferred
Two years’ experience working as a manager or supervisor
Software knowledge: Word, Excel, Explorer, Solid Works, AutoCad, manufacturing software, configuration management software, Power Point, Microsoft Project
